News, week 33, 2006: ........... We are very sad to report the tragic death of Kristin Berglund who sadly died this week. KRISTIN BERGLUND Singer . Guitarist . Songwriter
Kristin is inspired by the old American Delta style and particularly the women of those days, like Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Sippie Wallace. Among contemporary musicians, and audiences alike, she is often compared with Bonnie Raitt, but still has an expression all her own. Kristin
performed solo as well as together with her band. She played several guitars
on stage, employing a variety of different tunings. She also played slide
on a resonator guitar. Kristin
Berglund was a leading light in her genre at home in Scandinavia. Her
two recent albums, “Rib Bone of My Own” (1999) and her recent,
“Where is the Soul Gonna Go” (2002) feature all original material. Kristin
regularly appeared at numberous festivals throughout the year – including
the Notodden Bluesfestival. In 2000, Kristin received Notodden’s highly
coveted “Blues Award”. In
the past, Kristin has recorded with blues artists like Sunnyland Slim in
Chicago in 1982. She has also recorded with people like Dr.John, Jeff
Porcaro, David Hungate and David Lindley, and performed live with
Sunnyland Slim, Dr.John and Junior Wells. Kristin
has been featured in both Norwegian and international blues magazines. The
new album, “Where’s The Soul Gonna Go,” was recorded at the Juke
Joint Studio in Notodden, owned by Steve Wold, an excellent producer,
engineer and musician. Most of the studio’s equipment was originally
used in the Stax Studios in Memphis, and has been shipped overseas from
the US. It is of course an analogue studio, which gives the recording a
rough and fairly unpolished sound. |
