The Legendary ....

TONY T.S. McPHEE

Singer . Guitarist . Songwriter

Then:

Tony McPhee first formed The Groundhogs during the early sixties.

The name of the band came about from one of the albums by artist John Lee Hooker called ‘Groundhog Blues’ and it just seemed to fit the bill.

The Hogs played every sixties blues club that was to be played and the band became an instant success such that Tony declined offers to join Chris Barber’s band, John Mayall and even Alexis Korner.

Tony’s judgment paid off because The Groundhogs became first choice for backing the visiting American bluesmen like Champion Jack Dupree, Jimmy Reed, Memphis Slim, Little Walter and even John Lee Hooker. Tony and the Hogs recorded albums with Dupree and Eddy Boyd during these times and it was a proud moment for Tony to join John Lee Hooker for an album simply titled ‘Hooker and the Hogs’ recorded in 1965.

And the rest as they say is history.

Now:

Tony McPhee has formally announced vocally and through his own web site that The Groundhogs have now officially dis-banded.

Tony remains a master of blues and boogie guitar and his fan base extends the world over.

Tony McPhee IS available for solo concert performances.
