STEVE SIMPSON Guitarist . Singer . multi-instrumentalist
A
highly respected musician that stands tall amongst his peers today. Steve
Simpson was the lead guitarist with ’Ronnie
Lane’s Slim Chance’ group and general
all round multi-intrumentalist taking on the part of fiddle and accordion
in addition to his stunning lead guitar roles. Following the demise of
’Slim Chance’ Steve was guitarist with several other notable
performers of the era including The
Frankie Miller Band, Meal Ticket and Hinkley’s Heroes
which was an all star band featuring throughout the years such performers
as Roger Chapman, Joe Cocker, Henry McCullough, Mel Collins and
numerous others. Following
on from the Frankie Miller Band Steve was recruited by the legendary rock
vocalist Roger Chapman
in 1981 for his group ’The Shortlist’.
This band has seen an array of glittering talent amongst its members
including guitarists Geoff Whitehorn (Procul Harum, The Who) and Micky
Moody (Whitesnake) but throughout Steve has maintained his position as
lead guitarist with ’The Shortlist’ much to the delight of the fans.
New
areas of exploration were seen during the late nineties when Steve
collaborated with current blues star, Eric
Bibb and former Eric Clapton side-man,
Dave Bronze. Steve added a new dimension to Bibb’s already popular works
with the use of fiddle and mandolin as well as his faultless and sincere
guitar accompaniament.
From
the nineties to the present day Steve, although still maintaining his role
in The Shortlist, is regularly noted performing in a diversity of roles
from leading his own band be it ’The Steve Simpson Band’ or to
collaborations with Alun Davies (Cat Stevens), Micky Moody (Whitesnake)
and more recently Paul Young.
